At Home: Leah D’Ambrosio, Founder and Designer of Wol Hide
At Home is about self-care. We're asking some of our favorite people what's keeping them well.
Where is home for you right now?
I live in Philadelphia, in a neighborhood on the edge of the city. It’s near a huge park so there’s a lot of trees and green space.
What are you doing to keep yourself calm?
I’m just starting to finally feel like I can calm down a bit. My way of staying calm through tough times is to just work through it so I think I was running on adrenaline for the first couple of weeks. I meditate some mornings, I try to do online yoga classes on the weekends. Taking my dog for a walk at the end of the day and getting fresh air is always a calm way to end my day. I usually walk with my husband and we talk through our day and how we’re feeling, what we’re thinking. Then we listen to music and cook dinner so it’s been a nice routine to wrap up the craziness of these days and feel a little normal.
What are you watching / reading / listening to?
Reading: I’ve been reading a lot of news obviously, but I’ve been trying to search out articles that talk about the future and predictions of changes that will happen. It makes me feel a little hopeful through this horrible time.
Listening: I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts, The Daily, Business of Fashion, Wardrobe Crisis. As for music, I’ve been listening to some favorite chill music like Yo La Tengo, Ducktails, Blood Orange, Beach House and also a lot of John Prine, Bob Dylan and George Harrison.
Watching: I’ve been watching High Maintenance, Killing Eve and Better Call Saul. They’re all distracting in a good way!
A Wol Hide Spring piece that you're excited about?
I feel really excited about this whole collection! There are a lot of sustainable production practices and materials that I’ve been working on for a while that all came together this season. I feel so good about putting this collection out in the world right now.
Your go-to At Home outfit?
Lately, I’ve been wearing my Easy Sweatpants basically every day. With a sweater or an Easy Sweatshirt. I have some vintage overalls that I’ve been rotating in with a sweater under.
How to achieve comfort at home? Please share your thoughts or advice.
I think this is totally personal! You have to feel like it’s your space to feel comfortable so collecting pieces you love and care about, I think will always create a comfortable home. For me, I also feel most comfortable when there’s not much clutter and the space is clean. There are also small atmosphere details that can help make it comfortable like smell and lighting. Having a candle you love to smell or some dim mood lighting helps.
